Dr. Nilanthy Balakrishnan gained 4 weeks of access to the National Graphene Institute's device fabrication facilities via Henry Royce's Researcher Equipment Access Scheme

October 2021

Prof. Kamal Vidanapathirana and Prof. Kumudu Perera from the Wayamba University of Sri Lanka joined the group as visiting researchers. A new collaborative research project on "2D materials-based electrodes for electrochemical double-layer capacitors" has been started.

September 2021

Menna Morgan joined the group as an MPhil Student. Menna's project focuses on strain engineering of 2D materials, especially III-VI layered materials.

Dr. Nilanthy Balakrishnan attended the Graphene Week 2021 conference, a virtual event from 20 - 24 September 2021. She presented her recent work entitled "Tunable van Hove singularities and correlated states in twisted monolayer-bilayer graphene".

Dr. Balakrishnan received the Keele Academic Returner's Fund of £3,685 on her return from her maternity leave. This fund was used to purchase small equipment, such as a Keysight voltage source meter for electrical measurement.

Dr. Nilanthy Balakrishnan gave an invited talk at the E-Talk series on the theme of "Nanotechnology: Smart materials, Research, Commercialization", on the 14th of September 2021. The E-talk series organized by the Maharaja Agrasen Institute of Technology.

August 2021

Dr. Balakrishnan and her collaborators published an article entitled "Ferroelectric semiconductor junctions based on graphene/In2Se3/graphene van der Waals heterostructures" in 2D Materials. Congratulations to all authors.

Congratulations to Dr. Nilanthy Balakrishnan (Keele University, UK), Dr. Juliana Morbec (Keele University, UK), Dr. Zeeshan Ali (National University of Sciences and Technology, Islamabad, Pakistan), and Dr. Muhammad Shoaib (Lahore University of Management Sciences, Pakistan) for receiving the British Councils’ Researcher Links Climate Change Workshop Grant of £7,000 for the project entitled "Exploitation of sustainable metal chalcogenide anodes for high energy sodium-ion battery".

Collaboration has been established with Dr. Peter Matthews, Lecturer in Chemistry at Keele University on the development of an AACVD (Aerosol Assisted Chemical Vapor Deposition) method to grow Transition metal dichalcogenides (TMDCs).
